The Problem -Why nothing worked for my struggle with dry skin

Few people know that when you suffer from water retention, your skin is very dry. Mine was, and it was a nightmare to care for it, especially when I was holding a high-flying executive position in a multinational business. Half of my suitcase was full of bottles: body lotions, especially medicated soap/leave-on moisturisers and creams prescribed by my GP, and any other ones that I hadn’t tried before. I could never travel anywhere just with hand luggage, as all my “bottles” exceeded the 100 ml rule. 

I tried everything, from the cheapest supermarket ones, to the most expensive ones. Nothing worked for my dry skin for more than a couple of days. I felt trapped, literally, in my body. And when I had to use a public toilet (restaurant, hotel, bar etc.) handwash solution, my palms felt as if someone had applied a paper coating to them. 

The feeling was terrible – until Leon Luxury came into being, I couldn’t even touch wood or wool; the horrible sensation I would get from doing that was quite shocking for me. I thought, for a long time, that it was in my head; only it wasn’t. All the products I was using were so harsh for dry skin, that their effect was much more negative than it would have been on someone with normal skin. I had little tubes of hand cream in my purse, so I could immediately apply it after washing my hands; they helped, but not for too long or too much.

THE DARE THAT STARTED LEON LUXURY, A NATURAL SKINCARE SOLUTION

The pandemic came and one day, at the height of the travel restrictions and “strictly necessary shopping”, my never-ending selection of creams and lotions was almost depleted. My husband – he has a PhD in Chemistry and is the other “half” of Leon Luxury – then said to me: “you have always been a great believer in the healing power of nature, plants and alternative therapies. As it seems that nothing works for your skin, why don’t you use your knowledge and passion and try to create something for yourself? What do you have to lose?”

I was wondering, as all those antiviral gels were coming out, together with the cleaning sprays and other formulations, how on earth would I ever be able to use them? I was, and you can laugh about it, thankful for not being a medical practitioner as I would have never been able to scrub my hands as they did.

Then, after more “inventions” and trials on myself, my husband said: “You know, if it helped you, I think it’s time we do this properly and see if we can help others”. 

Between my knowledge of the healing power of plants, Kirlian fields, potent plant oils and butters, and my husband’s formal qualifications, we set down to map out what we would do, how we would do it, and what we would need to do to turn a passion into a proven concept of the efficacy of organic natural luxury products. We wanted everything to be above board, legal, tested and certified – after all, as the skin is the largest organ of our body and our first protection barrier against the external environment, we needed the independent assurance and validation that what we did and do is right, compliant and correct.

IT STARTED WITH MY SKIN, NOW WE CAN HELP OTHERS WITH CERTIFIED NATURAL SKINCARE

Today, and this is something that really makes me laugh a lot, when I shake hands with someone or when I go to various exclusive events to present our products, most people will come and say: “your hands are so soft!”. And I almost always reply to them “You should have seen them several years ago!”

They are still chubby, as I am not a catwalk model, but they are, indeed, soft. Gone are the days of excessive itching, scratching and all the horrible feelings associated with dry skin conditions. Ever since we started creating our products, I have not bought a single skincare item, of any kind, from any shop (with the exception of shampoo). Everything we create, and this is well known to our customers, is tested first on me, then on our friends and relatives and, if we are all happy, that particular product is sent for lab testing. If it passes the certification process (and no product has failed until now!), then we register it with the UK Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards.

“What never ceases to touch my soul is when I see young children with significant skin issues using our products, and hearing from their parents “it doesn’t itch/burn” anymore. There comes a time, as many of you know, when steroids stop being effective. That’s when we, generally, come in.”

I don’t have wrinkles. I never used fillers, or plumping solutions or anything of the kind. Given all my hormonal issues (beyond life’s menopause), my face is not covered in pimples, patches or stains. I almost never wear make up, as I don’t think I need to (I do like a matt lipstick though).

I am the first customer of Leon Luxury, and my pledge to myself when this journey started was to never sell/gift anyone what I never used myself.

For the past two months I’ve been using the Delight Face and Eye Elixir (yes, our little jars last forever and yes, you may get bored with them not finishing fast enough) and the Noir Elixir Body Oil. My feet are always looked after by the Bee Bliss, and my go-to soap is the Desert. But, and this is a secret may grandmother told me almost a lifetime ago: always, absolutely always change what you put on your skin, so that it constantly reacts and rejuvenates. As soon as my Delight jar is finished, I’ll use a Dazed Facial Oil; as soon as I finish the Noir Elixir Body Oil, I’ll move onto the Sandalwood Body Butter (I always change them).

Most of all, and especially important for me – as someone who has spent a fortune on skincare products and none worked – I want to show YOU that luxury skincare CAN be affordable. And Leon Luxury’s is.

In a very short period of time, in less than a year from our brand’s official launch, we had the privilege of being featured in numerous British lifestyle magazines, daily newspapers and online outlets.
